SWADE Clarity

Adds the right target numbers and plain-language explanations to the roll cards of the Savage Worlds Adventure Edition system, and fixes a few places where the system gets a rule wrong. Made for tables with new players. It never rolls or applies damage. Its Stunned recovery replaces SWADE's automatic status callback.

Features

  • Target numbers on every attack: each target's number and result (Miss, Hit, Raise), with range, cover and Gang Up worked out per target. If a default modifier changes while the roll dialog is open, later targets are marked for manual comparison.
  • Damage explained: Toughness with armor and AP, and the outcome (Shaken, Wounds, Incapacitated).
  • Resolve Damage for the right target: uses the damage roll's target by default. A bullseye/expand toggle switches between the target and selected tokens; one pill shows the active subject and lets you choose among several roll targets.
  • Called shots in the roll dialog, with the damage bonus and the armor at that location when one unconsumed attack card matches the actor, weapon and targets. An ambiguous match calls for manual comparison.
  • Rules fixes: Vulnerable stays after Stunned; shield cover, Dodge, Gang Up, Wild Attack and Recoil follow the book.
  • When statuses end, shown on the token HUD and sheet condition toggles.
  • For beginners: a short sentence under each result and tooltips on rule terms, linking to the SWADE Core Rules module when installed.
  • Data check: a GM dialog that finds and fixes known errors in items and scenes.
  • Uses SWADE Folio's look when its chat cards are on.

Settings

Each feature has its own switch in Configure Settings → SWADE Clarity, all on by default. Show numbers to players (world) hides target numbers and Toughness from players, leaving only the verdicts. The data check opens from the SWADE Clarity section in the Settings sidebar.

Requirements

  • Foundry VTT v14
  • SWADE system 6.0 or later
  • Optional: SWADE Core Rules (for the rules links), SWADE Folio (styling)
  • With Carolingian UI: Carolingian Bridge, or Carolingian's styles override the result panel
  • Incompatible with Better Rolls 2 and SWADE Tools, which replace the same roll cards

Limits

  • Clarity works from the system's default modifiers. Changed defaults suppress later target verdicts; conditional modifiers, other modules and opposed tests may still need a manual check.
  • Called-shot damage matches an unconsumed attack card from the past ten minutes by actor, weapon and exact target selection. If several match, or the card is unavailable to the client, add the bonus and compare armor manually.
  • Area attacks use a target number of 4, and armor from effects counts as full-body armor.

Installation

In Foundry's Add-on Modules tab, choose Install Module and paste this manifest URL:

This is a personal project and stays at 0.x: expect breaking changes between versions.
