Immersive Vision
Make darkness and facing matter in Foundry VTT. Darkvision reveals shapes rather than a bright copy of the map, while light restores colour and detail.
Features
- Darkvision: blurred, grainy greys fade with distance and scene darkness. Explored areas stay darker than current sight; lights bring colour back.
- Viewing angle: a configurable field of view follows token facing, with an optional soft edge; tokens in the outer half of that fade aren't seen. Hold O to look toward the cursor; turns animate for other players too.
- Facing indicator: a small triangle outside the border of your token points where it faces, even with Lock Artwork Rotation. Drag it to turn the token (5° steps, Shift for free turning); right-click or Escape cancels. Optionally it shows on every token with locked artwork, for everyone.
- Turning out of turn: optionally, a chat message tells the table when a player turns a token during combat while it isn't that token's turn, and the token shows an eye icon (Looked around) until the start of its next turn. A cancelled drag of the facing indicator counts too. Nothing is blocked.
- Your token stays visible: art that extends beyond your token's vision remains dimly visible through the fog.
- Peripheral vision: like eyes, the view softens gradually towards its sides: detail first, then colour, and by day some brightness. At night the sides keep their brightness and lights keep some colour.
- Hearing with Vision 5e: a soft arc hints at the direction of a heard but unseen token. Switch back to Vision 5e's exact ping if preferred.
- Per-token exception: Use token angle keeps a creature's own vision angle and disables its peripheral effect.
Settings are grouped under Darkvision, Viewing angle, Facing and turning, and Hearing. The darkvision look, peripheral effect, soft edge and facing indicator are client settings. The viewing angle, turn speed, hearing mode, the indicator on locked artwork and the out-of-turn message are world settings. Set the viewing angle to 360° or the soft edge to 0° to turn those parts off.
Requirements
Foundry VTT v14. Works with systems that use Foundry's darkvision mode; hearing hints require the optional Vision 5e module.
