Ferne Horizonte

A dark, quiet theme for the Join Game screen of a self-hosted Foundry VTT server: glass panels over the world background, a softly glowing title with a horizon line beneath it, and serif type throughout.

The Ferne Horizonte join screen

Features

  • Restyles the Join Game screen only. The game itself, Setup and every other page keep Foundry's look.
  • Works with both join themes from World Configuration: Default (login, session details, return to setup, world description) and Minimal (login and return to setup only).
  • Amarante for the world title, EB Garamond for everything else. Both fonts ship with the theme, so the page makes no requests to Google.
  • Stays dark when the server uses Foundry's light interface theme.

Requirements

  • Foundry VTT v14 (checked against 14.369)
  • Write access to Foundry's installation files, however Foundry is run (desktop app, Node.js, container, hosting panel)

Installation

Foundry doesn't load module, system or world styles on the join screen, so this is not a module. The theme is added to Foundry's own stylesheet instead.

Paths are relative to the Foundry application folder, the one that contains public/. (In the desktop app that is resources/app/.)

What From this repository To
Fonts fonts/*.woff2 public/fonts/ferne-horizonte/ (create the folder)
Stylesheet ferne-horizonte-login.css append its contents to the end of public/css/foundry2.css

Keep a copy of the original foundry2.css first, then reload the join page without the cache. No restart is needed.

A Foundry update replaces public/, so repeat the steps after updating, starting from the new foundry2.css. If you change the theme, rebuild foundry2.css from the original copy plus the theme file.

Customization

The colours are custom properties at the top of ferne-horizonte-login.css: change the --fh-accent values to give the title, horizon line and buttons a different hue. --fh-spark-size sets how far the title's glow drifts.
